BRAIDWOOD 6th NOVEMBER

‘New’Trophy’

Hard early morning frost followed by beautiful sunshine brought a healthy turnout at Braidwood on Sunday for the annual ‘New’ Trophy event.  The overall standard of shooting was once again of a high standard although the first clay on stand 12 spoiled a few score cards.  It definitely appeared to suit those with a quick style best.  The bright winter sun low in the sky also meant dark glasses were the order of the day at the High Bird and several other stands.

Undeterred by any of this, Stuart Dawson (Bedlington) made the Cigar Box his own shooting a sterling 37 ex 40 to win the first competition of the day outright.  Jim Brodie (Denholm), Jim McPhillips (Bathgate) and Kyle Smith (Dunbar) shared runner-up slot on 35 whilst John Ross (Whitburn) and Lindsay Gordon (Preston Pans) were only one behind.

Smith then upped his game a fraction more to break 36 clays on Layout Two and win the second event.  Sandy Burn (Jedburgh) lay second on 34 while Brodie, Dawson and Bob Goldie (Haddington) and John Kane (Langholm) each scored 33 in third place.

A score of 71 meant that Smith was the undisputed Aggregate winner on the day.  Dawson also broke the 70 barrier, Brodie the next highest overall with his 68 from 80 tally.

The next competition at Braidwood is on Sunday 20 November at which time Stuart Donaldson defends again, this time the ‘Teviotdale Shield.   Entries close at Noon.  All welcome.
