BRAIDWOOD 2nd JANUARY

Roger Tyrer Trophy

A field of 69 turned out at Braidwood on Monday to take part in the first sporting competition of 2012.  Although the wind chill factor left all feeling blue at the extremities conditions were pretty good considering this time last year the ground was buried under heaps of snow!

Rab Neil (North Berwick) set out his stall for 2012 shooting 35 ex 40 over the first layout to steal the Roger Tyrer Trophy by a single clay from defending gun, Donald Livingston (Edinburgh).  Jim McPhillips (Batgate) shot 33 while Tam Patterson (Galashiels) and Midge Little (Clovenfords) both broke 32.  It was also pleasing to see 2 lady shots, Melanie Thomson (Loanhead) and Suzanne Little (Clovenfords) make the prize list in the pre-lunch half.

Having had a ‘poor day at the office’ in the first event of the day, Kyle Smith (Dunbar) redeemed himself with honours in Round Two.  Smith only missed one clay to finish on 39 ex 40 three targets clear of runner-up Stuart Dawson (Bedlington).  Neil Redpath (Embleton) shot 35 whilst Nigel Rock (Kelso) tied 4th position with Smith’s father, Dave, on 34.

The overall title was a shared affair.  When total scores were tallied a tie between Rab Neil and Stuart Dawson became evident both breaking 67 ex 80.  Donald Livingston shot 65;Tam Patterson and Nigel Rock broke 64.

The next shoot reverts to a Sunday as normal and is on 15th January when the ‘Braidwood Challenge Trophy’ is the member’s trophy up for grabs.  Donald Livingston is once again the defending gun.  Two weeks later on Sunday 29th January Stuart Dawson has the opportunity to defend the ‘Big Stirrer’.  Entries for both events close at Noon.  All welcome.
